What e-invoicing software actually has to do

Vendors will show you dashboards. The features that decide whether you pass or fail are less exciting than that, and most of them are invisible in a demo. Here is the list we work through with clients before looking at any product.

What matters

The short version

Four things worth understanding properly before you spend money on anything.

1Structured output mapped to the required field set

The system must produce the invoice as structured data matching the PINT AE specification, not render a PDF and attach metadata to it.

2Validation before transmission

Errors caught inside your own system are cheap. Errors caught by your provider or rejected downstream are expensive and slow to unwind.

3Complete credit and debit note handling

Corrections, cancellations and partial credits all have to be representable. A system that only issues sales invoices will not survive contact with real trading.

4Numbering that is sequential and gap-free per series

Per branch, per licence, per financial year. Getting this wrong is one of the easier ways to create an audit conversation you did not want.

The official timeline

UAE e-invoicing rollout — key dates

Published by the Ministry of Finance and the Federal Tax Authority. Dates below are the current published position; confirm your own phase in writing before you commit to a supplier.

23 February 2026

Electronic Invoicing Guidelines V1.0 published

The Ministry of Finance issued the official guidelines and the mandatory-fields specification, which is when the scheme moved from announcement to something you can plan against.

1 July 2026

Voluntary pilot opens

Businesses can start issuing e-invoices voluntarily or as part of the pilot group. Joining early means no penalties before your own compliance date.

30 October 2026

Large businesses appoint an ASP

Businesses with annual revenue of AED 50 million or more must have an Accredited Service Provider appointed. This deadline was extended from July by Ministerial Decision No. 56 of 2026.

1 January 2027

Large businesses go live

Structured e-invoicing becomes mandatory for the AED 50 million and above group, covering B2B and B2G transactions.

31 March 2027

Everyone else appoints an ASP

Businesses below the AED 50 million threshold must have their Accredited Service Provider in place.

1 July 2027

Remaining businesses go live

The rest of the in-scope population starts issuing structured e-invoices. Being small delays your date; it does not take you out of scope.

1 October 2027

Government entities go live

Government bodies complete the rollout, which closes the loop on business-to-government invoicing.

GoldenKey e-Invoice · in development

We are building our own e-invoicing app — and the ERP and CRM around it

GoldenKey works with Zaini Developers, our in-house technology team, who already build ERP, CRM, POS, HR and accounting systems for UAE businesses. We are putting that same engine behind e-invoicing: software that produces structured, PINT AE-shaped invoices out of your normal day-to-day billing and hands them to the Accredited Service Provider you appoint. Tell us what your business actually invoices and we build your configuration around it.

Validation before sendingMissing or malformed fields are caught in your own system first, so rejections do not pile up later.
VAT-aware line itemsStandard-rated, zero-rated, exempt and reverse-charge lines handled per line, not per invoice.
Multi-currencyInvoice in AED, USD, EUR or GBP with the AED equivalent recorded where it is required.
Approval workflowDraft, review, approve, issue — with a named person against every step.
Archive & retrievalInvoices stored in a searchable archive you can hand to an auditor without digging through email.
Audit trailWho created it, who changed it, who issued it and when — recorded automatically.
Numbering that holds upSequential, gap-free numbering per series, per branch and per financial year.
Branch & multi-companyRun several licences or branches from one login with separate numbering and reporting.
Roles & permissionsAccounts, sales and management each see only what they should.

GoldenKey is a business setup and compliance consultancy. We are not a Ministry of Finance Accredited Service Provider, and we do not claim to be one. Our software is built to work alongside the ASP you appoint. Scope, timelines and pricing are agreed in writing before any work starts.

Questions we get asked

Frequently asked

Short, practical answers. If yours is not here, ask us directly — we answer even if you never become a client.

What is the single most important software feature?

Structured output that validates against the required field set before it leaves your system. Everything else is convenience by comparison.

Do I need a dashboard and analytics?

Useful, not required. Prioritise correctness and audit trail over presentation.

Will my current software be upgraded by its vendor?

Ask them in writing, with a date. Many vendors say they are working on it; fewer will commit to a version and a timeline.
